BASF has now been recognized as the sustainable company of the year 2019 in Brazil. The award is granted by the renowned "Exame Guide for Sustainability 2019" and highlights companies that have achieved most progress towards sustainable development within the country. For the first time, a company from the chemical industry is regarded as the sustainable company of the year.

"Exame" is the most important business magazine in the country.

“This achievement shows that we are on the right track to continue creating chemistry for a sustainable future. To receive this award for me is just as much a recognition of our commitment as well as a motivation and responsibility to continue on the path to sustainability,” says Manfredo Rübens, President of BASF for South America.

The Exame Sustainability Guide is the largest corporate sustainability survey in Brazil and examines issues of commitment, transparency and corporate governance. In addition, it tackles economic, social and environmental dimensions such as human rights, community relations, supplier management, waste management, biodiversity, customers and climate change.

For Cristiana Brito, Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability for South America, this award recognizes the employees’ efforts. “Sustainability only happens when we work together for a common good and with consistency in execution!”, she congratulates.

The topic, which has been part of BASF’s strategy for 25 years, brings challenges that move the whole company. “I am convinced that with our work we strongly contribute to the transformation towards a more sustainable future”, concludes Rübens.
