Use case: Textiles with a cooling function
Intelligent nonwovens can transform textiles into mobile air-conditioning systems that can be worn, particularly benefiting athletes and people who work outdoors.
Functional cooling clothing
The functional clothing manufacturer pervormance, amongst others, uses Luquafleece™ for its cooling vests. At present, these are mainly worn by athletes and those who have to work in high ambient temperatures. Handling is easy. To activate the vests, they are charged with water. Luquafleece™ ensures that the water is quickly absorbed and distributed. The fibers of the nonwoven are coated with superabsorber molecules using a special technology. The superabsorber’s polymer network traps more and more water particles until it offsets the osmotic forces of the concentration gradient through its elastic resilience. This is how Luquafleece™ can absorb 10 times its weight of water and bind it so strongly that the functional textiles are dry on the outside.
If the ambient temperature is high or skin temperature rises during sports or active work, the water molecules bound on the inside of the functional cooling garment absorb the thermal energy, evaporate out of the large surface of the three-dimensional nonwoven and in doing so, cool the wearer. Perspiration is substantially reduced and the energy saved that would otherwise be required for thermoregulation.
