BASF Canada's Cornwall site opens its doors to the community

MISSISSAUGA, ON, June 16, 2014 – As part of BASF Canada’s commitment to Responsible Care®, the company hosted an open house for the surrounding community at its Cornwall site on Saturday, June 14.

“At BASF we regard the protection of health, safety and the environment as our most important responsibility,” said Diana Rourke, Site Manager.  Today’s event provided the opportunity for visitors to tour our facility and learn more about our company values and the products we manufacture here in Cornwall.”

The open house included remarks from Carles Navarro, President of BASF Canada, guided site tours and information about the company’s operations and products. Children also had the opportunity to experience hands on chemistry at a BASF Kids’ Lab. The company’s popular hands-on chemistry program invited participants to explore the chemistry of polymers using common household ingredients.

“As a Responsible Care company, BASF Canada is committed to maintaining an open and ongoing dialogue with our neighbours and the greater Cornwall community,” said Navarro. “The open house provides a great forum for us to connect with this group, share important information and answer any questions they may have.”

Developed by the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC) in 1985, Responsible Care® is a United Nations-recognized sustainability initiative which is practiced in more than 60 countries around the world. It takes into consideration all aspects of a company’s business, including operations, product stewardship and environmental, health and safety performance.

In February 2014, BASF Canada successfully completed its sixth Responsible Care® verification, which included a visit to the Cornwall site. This re-verification recognized the company’s commitment to protecting the health and safety of its employees, communities and the environment.

BASF Canada’s Cornwall site distributes and manufactures specialty plasticizers for North America and export markets. The products are used by customers, in conjunction with Polyvinyl Chloride, to create finished products such as swimming pool liners, automobile interiors, wire insulation and packaging materials.
