BASF Canada supports Meat Recovery program to help feed Montreal families
Company donates $3,000 towards the delivery of high protein, nutritious meals
MISSISSAUGA, ON, March 17, 2015 – BASF recently presented Moisson Montreal with a $3,000 donation in support of the food bank’s Meat Recovery program, which collects surplus meat from grocery stores for distribution to community organizations in the Montreal area. The donation was presented to Jonathan Rodrigue, Director of Community Relations at Moisson Montreal, at the food bank’s headquarters.
The contribution is part of BASF’s commitment to support community-based initiatives in communities where it operates.
“As BASF celebrates our global 150th Anniversary, we continue to look for ways to develop innovative solutions that help meet the needs of a growing world population, including the need for nutrious food,” said Maria Di Paolo, Operations Officer for BASF’s Montreal site. “We recognize that food loss is a significant challenge and are proud to support Moisson Montreal’s Meat Recovery Program because it contributes to less food waste and more food on the tables of families in need.”
According to Canada’s Food Guide, a balanced diet should include protein, however, meat is more expensive than other products and not generally provided to food banks, which is why BASF’s donation will help fulfill this need.
The program distributes meat products to 46 community organizations including homeless shelters, collective kitchens and meals-on-wheels. Since 2013, it has provided $1.6M worth of meat towards nutritious meals for those in need.
