BASF awards $30,000 in scholarships and internship opportunities to students majoring in chemical process technology
MCINTOSH, AL, June 5, 2018 -- BASF awarded $30,000 in college scholarships to four local students to support their pursuit of careers in chemical manufacturing. In addition to paying the tuition and fees for the students to attend Coastal Alabama Community College (CACC), BASF is also providing them with internship positions at its McIntosh site this summer.
As part of its workforce development efforts, BASF’s McIntosh site offers two-year scholarships annually for students participating in the chemical process technology program at CACC. The two-year degree program prepares students for jobs in the chemical industry. Scholarships are awarded based on a student’s academic accomplishment, testing, and an interview.
“At BASF, we encourage and support students in our community to learn about careers in the chemical industry,” said Jason Slinkard, Site Director of the BASF site in McIntosh. “Our scholarship program and internship opportunities can help development the future leaders of our industry.”
BASF awarded Gracie Etheredge, a graduate of Leroy High School, and Mason Holston, a graduate of Millry High School, each a $10,000 scholarship toward their studies in chemical process technology. William Phillips and Donovan Smith received approximately $5,000 each from BASF to support their second year in the chemical process technology program at CACC.
During their summer internships at BASF, the students will experience shift work hours and participate in supervised, on-the-job activities with operators who work in the site’s production units. They will focus on learning about safety procedures and equipment reliability.
