Peter Schuhmacher is Executive Vice President of BASF in North America and President, Global Catalysts Division, a position he assumed on December 1, 2018. Peter heads the world’s leading supplier of environmental and process catalysts.
Prior to assuming his current role, Peter served as President, Process Research & Chemical Engineering, BASF SE, based in Ludwigshafen, Germany.
Peter joined BASF as Research Manager in 1995 and held a variety of leadership roles throughout his career. Following different positions in consulting and marketing, he became Group Vice President of BASF’s Intermediates Asia business, based in Hong Kong, China. In 2010, Peter returned to Ludwigshafen, Germany, to take on the role of Senior Vice President of Strategic Planning.
Peter was born in Flörsheim am Main, Germany. He studied Chemistry at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany, and at the University of Amherst, Massachusetts. He received his degree in 1991. After a research fellowship at Scripps Research Institute in San Diego, California, he earned his doctorate in 1995 at the University of Mainz.
