BASF at Sustainable Brands Conferences in South America

At the Sustainable Brands Conference Buenos Aires Claus Wünschmann talked about how BASF provides sustainable solutions to tackle future challenges.

Sustainable Brands Conferences are held worldwide with participants from business, science, politics and other fields of society who discuss how they can tackle future challenges with sustainable solutions. BASF recently attended two conferences in South America as a sponsor. The focus of this year´s conferences was on the topic of food which is also one of the three future topics BASF emphasizes during its 150th anniversary year.

In late August the Sustainable Brands Conference found its way to the Copacabana: more than 500 participants attended the conference in Rio de Janeiro. At the Activation Hub, a marketplace for ideas, participants had the chance to talk with BASF and a team from the UN Global Compact Brazil about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. They jointly developed ideas on how companies can contribute to and implement these goals. During the three-day conference, drinks were served in cups made of Ecovio©, the compostable bioplastic from BASF.

The Ethos 360° Conference, one of the biggest sustainability conferences took place in Brazil in September. Dr. Dirk Voeste, Vice President Sustainability Strategy, BASF SE, gave a presentation on how BASF is implementing sustainability.

In early September the Sustainable Brands Conference took place in Buenos Aires with over 900 participants. Claus Wünschmann, Vice President and Managing Director of the Business Center Sub Region South America South, presented the Sustainable Solutions Steering™ method, which measures the contribution to sustainability of each BASF product in its particular application, and gave examples of sustainable products and solutions that contribute to challenges related to the topic of food. “Over the last few years, both the society and our clients have become increasingly interested in the contribution of companies to sustainability. At BASF, we acknowledged this demand and developed a new process to steer our product portfolio on the basis of sustainability criteria,” said Wünschmann.

The next Sustainable Brands New Metrics Conference will take place in Boston. Dr. Dirk Voeste will talk about Sustainable Solution Steering™, the experiences made in the past year since it was launched as well as concrete goals for the next years.
