LuMit - The employee center for work-life-management
Our employees are the pivotal factor in our company’s success – today and in the future. With the construction of LuMit, BASF has sent a visible message that it takes the compatibility of work and private life seriously.
The “Lu” in the center’s name stands for Ludwigshafen, BASF’s headquarters. The “Mit” stands for Mitarbeiter (employees), but also for Mitmachen (joining in) and Miteinander (together). This is because the center should be a meeting place for staff and a place where they receive support that helps them come to terms with their individual challenges.
The area, with approximately 10,000 square meters of space, is home to a modern building complex consisting of five buildings, where various offerings based on different phases of life are combined centrally under one roof. About 600 employees take advantage of these offerings every day. In the process they benefit from a closely integrated network of experts, which allows for effective and individual support across specialist areas.
The LuKids nursery, which is located near the plant, is like a second home for the children who receive care there, and facilitates the return of parents to working life. LuKids offers space for a total of 250 children between 6 months and 3 years of age. Long opening hours, few closure days and the possibility of adjusting care hours to working hours offers parents a high degree of flexibility. LuKids promotes the early childhood education of children in a playful way and offers bilingual care in German and English.
Moreover, when employees’ regular child care suddenly becomes unavailable, with LuKids Adhoc BASF offers fast and flexible child emergency care for employees’ children from 6 months to 11 years of age.
The “LuFit” offering is a modern fitness and health studio, an on-site medical consulting service and a practice for physical therapy. The fitness studio offers over 2,000 members a training area of more than 1,500 square meters with modern sports equipment for endurance and strength training in addition to multiple course rooms, a spinning room and a relaxation area with a sauna. The primary objective is to reach employees who previously did not exercise much or did not exercise at all.
To be able to advise the employees comprehensively, the team works closely with the on-site medical service and the physical therapy practice on site. In addition to a standing membership, employees can individually book various workshops, courses and consultations in LuFit from BASF’s “Sports and Health” program. The program includes topics such as stress management, healthy nutrition, as well as aerobics, yoga, back exercises and much more.
For employees and their relatives as well as pensioners and their families, “LuCare” social counseling is the central contact point for information on social questions, counseling during life crises and for particular professional or private challenges. Focal points of the counseling are the topics care of relatives, conflicts in the workplace, burnout, financial difficulties, problems with alcohol or other addictive substances and conflicts due to sexual orientation or gender identity. All conversations are confidential and are subject to legal professional secrecy.
