BASF launches Argold® herbicide with breakthrough Winter grass management for premium turf surfaces
- New active ingredient for the turf industry cinmethylin provides pre- and early post-emergent management of Winter grass (Poa annua)
- High efficiency with low application rates and extended intervals between applications
- Designed as a reliable, long-term management tool for high-value turf surfaces such as golf greens and tees
Melbourne, Australia – 02 March 2026 – BASF will introduce Argold® herbicide to the Australian turf industry in March 2026. The herbicide offers a new solution for managing Winter grass (Poa annua) and supports turf managers in maintaining uniform, high-quality playing surfaces.
Argold herbicide contains cinmethylin, a powerful active ingredient for turf. It manages Winter grass at pre-emergent and early post-emergent growth stages at low application rates, reducing the need for frequent applications. Its mode of action inhibits key enzymes involved in weed development, offering reliable, long-term management.
“Winter grass (Poa annua) remains one of the most persistent challenges for turf professionals, impacting surface uniformity and overall turf quality,” said Parvana Wali, Head of BASF Agricultural Solutions, Australia and New Zealand.
“Argold herbicide addresses a critical industry need by delivering effective, sustainable management of Winter grass. By reducing weed pressure while maintaining turf quality, Argold herbicide helps turf managers deliver consistent, high-performance playing surfaces.”
Argold herbicide is designed for use on high-input, premium turf surfaces such as golf greens, tees and other intensively maintained areas.
