BASF launches Liberty® ULTRA, a new glufosinate herbicide delivering enhanced performance and crop safety
- New GLU-L™ technology delivers superior and reliable weed control
- Tested and selected for Australian conditions with improved crop safety on InVigor® canola
- Highly concentrated formulation offers lower use rates and easier handling to streamline spray operations
Melbourne, Australia, April 22 2026 – BASF has launched Liberty® ULTRA, the latest evolution of its proven Liberty® herbicide. Powered by innovative Glu-L™ technology, Liberty ULTRA delivers enhanced weed control, improved crop safety and greater flexibility, providing Australian growers with a reliable post-emergent solution for integrated weed management.
“Liberty ULTRA represents a major step forward in herbicide innovation,” said Parvana Wali, Head of Agricultural Solutions, BASF Australia & New Zealand. “This advanced glufosinate formulation achieves robust weed control at lower application rates. This means handling, storage and transport requirements are reduced, helping growers manage weeds effectively, even under challenging conditions.”
Building on the proven performance of Liberty herbicide, Liberty ULTRA incorporates two breakthrough technologies: the GLU-L™ technology uses only the highly active L-isomer of glufosinate for improved efficacy, while the Liberty Lock™ formulation enhances droplet adhesion and spread for more uniform coverage. Together, these technologies set a new performance standard for glufosinate herbicides.
Tested extensively in the USA and selected for Australian cropping conditions, Liberty ULTRA has shown up to three times greater uptake of the active ingredient through the leaf surface1 compared with generic alternatives, to deliver superior control of key weeds.
Liberty ULTRA also sets a new benchmark for crop safety in InVigor® LibertyLink® canola. It is the only glufosinate registered for use from the cotyledon stage, allowing early application and providing additional crop safety when spraying newly emerging canola crops. In addition, its one-day plant-back interval to cereals, oilseeds and pulses allows for flexible pre-plant knockdown applications.
Liberty ULTRA has now been registered for use by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) and now available through authorised BASF distributors nationwide. Growers can contact their local BASF representative or visit crop-solutions.basf.com.au for more information.
