BASF launches Basta® ULTRA, next generation non-selective herbicide powered by Glu-L technology

  • Next generation innovation – Basta ULTRA builds on over 30 years of trusted glufosinate performance with BASF’s new Glu-LTM technology
  • The improved formulation delivers superior weed control and reduced handling for growers
  • Supporting growers’ needs – a powerful alternative to glyphosate and paraquat offering broad weed spectrum control

Melbourne, Australia, 4 May, 2026 – BASF has introduced Basta® ULTRA, the next generation of its proven Basta herbicide. Featuring BASF’s Glu-LTM technology, the new formulation offers enhanced performance and convenience while maintaining the product’s superior efficacy.

“Growers across Australia have trusted Basta for more than three decades. With Basta ULTRA, we’ve taken that proven performance and advanced it with new technology to meet today’s challenges of efficiency, crop safety and sustainability,” said Parvana Wali, Head of Agricultural Solutions, BASF Australia and New Zealand.

Basta ULTRA provides powerful knock-down control across Australia’s diverse horticultural systems of more than 100 annual and perennial weeds, including grasses and broadleaf species, across tree crops, vineyards, and vegetable production. The upgraded formulation enhances crop safety compared with glyphosate, while the lower application rate reduces manual handling, storage and transport requirements.

Basta ULTRA also features a superior formulation package with new “lock” formulation, providing outstanding droplet retention that limits application bounce off and loss. Additionally, the formulation is rainfast within 6 hours. This ultimately reduces the need for repeated applications and helps farmers reduce usage and increase weed control efficiency.

Basta ULTRA has now been registered for use by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) and will be available soon through authorised BASF distributors nationwide. Growers can contact their local BASF representative or visit www.crop-solutions.basf.com.au for label information and usage guidance.
