  • BASF Skin Microbiome Theme Forum: showcasing BASF's latest R&D innovations in the field of microbiome

Shanghai, China – March 22, 2024 – BASF's Care Chemicals Division participates in the 2024 Personal Care and Homecare Ingredients ("PCHi") with the theme "Sustainable Technology Power Rebuilding Healthy Skin Biome", showcasing BASF’s classic sunscreen, cleansing, and skincare products. BASF also hosts a forum with the theme "BASF Healthy Skin Microbiome", presenting the company’s latest R&D innovations in the field of microbiome.

"2024 will be a year full of hope and growth with more international exchanges and great opportunities," said Viju Jose, Vice President, Personal Care Solutions, Care Chemicals, BASF Asia Pacific. "BASF Care Chemicals Division will rejuvenate consumer brands with our pioneering technologies, professional team, and innovative concepts. As a leading raw material supplier in the cosmetic industry, BASF is committed to corporate social responsibilities and aims to creating a sustainable future."

The Chinese market is full of vitality, where both international and domestic brands are booming. With more diversified consumer demands, higher requirements on product functions and performance, as well as the market trend of environmental protection and sustainable development, raw material suppliers need to make continuous innovations to meet these needs of the market and the industry, thus promoting the sustainable development of the entire industry. BASF leverages its R&D advantages and mobilizes the strength of the R&D team to support the transformation and upgrading of consumer brands and drive the industry's development.

Focusing on efficacy, condensing essence: BASF personal care products introduce a sustainably sourced cosmetic active ingredient through Epispot™, enhancing beauty and confidence for individuals prone to skin imperfections. Epispot™ addresses the root causes of skin lipid, microbiome, and skin’s natural defense system imbalances, reducing skin shine, improving the appearance of facial pores, and promoting a healthy skin. Therefore, this new ingredient aligns with skincare trends, meeting consumers' desires for authentic, flawless looks without relying on digital beauty filters. Epispot™ is an extract of Epilobium angustifolium’s flower/leaf/stem, ethically harvested to organic standards from six different mountain regions in France. The efficacy of Epispot™ has been validated in a study involving 34 female volunteers.

Sunshine for you, protection with me: Tinomax™ CC is BASF's latest development of 100% naturally sourced non-nano particles based on patented technology with a special surface treatment. Tinomax™ CC can enhance UV protection in sun care products by increasing the UV light path, while improving the formula's skin feel, and environmental and ecotoxicological characteristics. Compared to traditional UV filters and boosters, Tinomax™ CC does not absorb UV light, but prolongs UV protection time only, achieving better SPF and UVA-PF protection. This new approach can also become another innovative direction for development of sun care products in future.

Green technology, reshaping a new ecosystem for healthy skin: Emulgade® Verde series is BASF's latest high-performance oil-in-water emulsifier with strong emulsify capability. It is 100% naturally sourced, with a solvent-free green production process, and suitable for sensitive skin. It also exhibits good compatibility with various polar lipids, becoming thinner upon shearing for easy spreading, and offering a specific skin sensory with low waxiness, which can be widely used in various applications for skincare, sun care, hair care and color cosmetics.

Enjoying purity cleansing while safeguarding healthy skin: In recent years, consumers' requirements for product performance and efficacy has been continuously increasing, and the rinse-off market ha gradually accepted the higher requirements of consumers for products. BASF's BioToLifeTM is a naturally fermented sophorolipid that can help balance the microbiome environment system on the surface of the skin, which not only offers a good balancing effect on skin microbiome in rinse-off products, but also has a good performance effect on different bacterial in oral care products.

BioToLifeTM is a further step of BASF to leverage innovations and sustainability to meet the needs of its clients and end consumers for the application of the microbiome concept in the field of rinse-off products.
