BASF opens flagship online store on Alibaba’s 1688.com platform

Shanghai, China – April 20, 2018 – Customers can now purchase BASF products directly, online, with the same quality and logistics services guaranteed. BASF today launched a flagship store on the Alibaba e-commerce platform 1688.com, China’s major domestic online business-to-business service. The online store will enable BASF to serve small and medium enterprises in a more flexible and timely manner.
“With e-commerce omnipresent in our lives, almost anything can be bought with a click. It is important for BASF to make our offerings more accessible to our customers in the rapidly growing local market,” said Dr. Zheng Daqing, BASF’s Senior Vice President, Business and Market Development Greater China, at a “going-live” ceremony held today at Alibaba’s headquarters in Hangzhou. “The online sales model will complement our traditional sales channels, to provide convenience to our existing customers and allow us to identify and effectively serve more small and medium-size customers.”

The first batch of 11 popular products from BASF’s performance chemicals, dispersions and resins, intermediates and care chemicals divisions are available at the flagship store. Customers can easily find products including antioxidants such as Irganox®1010, Irgafos®168 and Irganox®1076, Keropur® fuel additives, NMP intermediates, and dispersions EFKA® products, etc. More BASF products will be rolled out on this platform in the near future.
BASF has established e-commerce processes along the entire supply chain for suppliers and customers globally. BASF was one of the first chemical companies to open an online shop on Alibaba, almost three years ago. The new flagship store, now with direct sales, will offer the largest chemical product portfolio in China and allow BASF to tap into growth opportunities on the online marketplace.
