Who we are
BASF Innovation Center Gent
The Innovation Center in Ghent aims to deliver innovative solutions for BASFs seed business by developing valuable traits for various crops through biotechnology solutions and modern breeding techniques.
The activities of the Innovation Center cover all aspects involved with the R&D process, from the initial stages of research to life cycle management, or as we call it, from the lab to the field.
The history of the site goes back to the early nineteen eighties when Plant Genetic Systems (PGS) was founded on the premises of the University of Ghent in 1982. A substantial portion of the global research performed on plants today is still based on the pioneering work carried out by PGS.
The Innovation Center employs a workforce of approximately 400 from 20 different countries.
BASF Innovation Center Gent is part of the legal entity BASF Belgium Coordination Center CommV.
