BASF Ranks 24 on the list of DiversityInc Top 50 Companies

FLORHAM PARK, NJ, April 20, 2016 – For the fourth consecutive year, BASF was named one of the Top 50 Companies for Diversity, moving up four spots to rank 24th on the 2016 list compiled by DiversityInc. The honorees were announced on April 19 in New York City, where more than 900 business leaders from across the country were present.

BASF was also ranked in the Top 10 Companies for Military Veterans, coming in at number 8 based on its strong commitment to hiring veterans as well as the support provided through its VETS employee resource group which aids the transition from the military to the corporate work environment.

“BASF ranks in the top 25 companies this year on the strength of its external partnerships with organizations such as the National Association of Manufacturers to advance diversity in manufacturing,” said DiversityInc. CEO Luke Visconti. “The company has an advanced diversity scorecard, which measures the impact of leadership behaviors on diversity outcomes, and has significantly increased women in management, coming in 26.8% higher than US companies overall.”

“The value of diversity and inclusion is fundamental to how we create chemistry for a sustainable future,” said Wayne Smith, Chairman and CEO, BASF Corporation. “Individuals with different backgrounds and experiences bring new ideas and perspectives to the table. Diversity makes us stronger – by leveraging our differences, we bring the best of BASF to everything we do.”

Companies with more than 1,000 U.S. based employees are eligible to enter DiversityInc’s Top 50 list. Each company’s rank is based on an objective analysis of 183 separate factors derived from a 300-question survey. The four equally weighted areas of measurement include CEO/Leadership Commitment, Talent Pipeline, Equitable Talent Development, and Supplier Diversity.

“We are working to be faster and bolder in our commitments to further improve diversity and inclusion,” said Patricia Rossman, Chief Diversity Officer, BASF Corporation. “This involves deeper efforts in hiring manager education, and higher degrees of leadership accountability for growth and change.”

The announcement dinner included a keynote address from Dr. Johnetta B. Cole, director of the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art (NMAfA). Dr. Cole has a long and distinguished career as an educator and humanitarian, from her work as a college president to her published works, speeches, and consultations with corporations and not-for-profit organizations.  She consistently addresses racial, gender and all forms of inequality through her work and community service.
