Local BASF employee honored by national manufacturing group
GEISMAR, LA, May 3, 2016 – BASF’s Christen Campbell, an Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist for BASF in Geismar, Louisiana, was recognized as an “Emerging Leader” with The Manufacturing Institute STEP Ahead award focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering and Production.
The Manufacturing Institute promotes the role of women in manufacturing through the STEP Ahead initiative, which serves to mentor and recognize women while also leading research on the topic. During the 2016 award ceremony, the Institute recognized 130 women, of which a select few were named Emerging Leaders.
"BASF recognizes the value women bring to manufacturing and engineering and is actively involved with organizations that encourage women to explore careers in those fields," said Tom Yura, BASF Senior Vice President of BASF’s Geismar site and Board Member of the National Association of Manufacturers. “Christen, through her demonstrated leadership and dedication, serves as a role model and mentor for other professional women as well as women interested in manufacturing and engineering."
Two other BASF employees were recognized during the ceremony. Also receiving an award was Nicole McGlone-Santistevan, BASF Vice President of Operations Industrial Petrochemical in Freeport, Texas. In addition, The Manufacturing Institute named Heidi Alderman, BASF Senior Vice President of Petrochemicals North America, as STEP Ahead Chairwoman for 2016-2017.
