BASF recognized as finalist for community impact award

WYANDOTTE, MI, July 15, 2016 – BASF Corporation was recognized as a finalist for the Corporate Community Impact Award at the second annual Sports Humanitarian of the Year Awards, presented by ESPN on July 12 in Los Angeles, California.

A new category for the 2016 awards, the Corporate Community Impact Award recognizes corporations who use the power of sports to make a positive impact on society by inspiring change. BASF was recognized for its collaboration with the Seattle Mariners to educate fans on the value of organic waste collection with certified compostable bags made with BASF’s ecovio® biopolymer. By engaging fans through in-stadium messaging, trivia games, and giveaways, BASF promoted tools for making organic waste collection clean, safe, and easy. In a follow-up survey, 83% of fans who received a kitchen caddy giveaway reported an increase of food scrap collection.

ESPN awarded BASF with a $25,000 grant for charity, which BASF has directed to the Green Sports Alliance for use by the food recovery group Rock and Wrap It Up! Sports Wrap!  This charitable program partners with sports arena and stadium concessions to recover unsold food for the indigent and helps educators build awareness about hunger, food waste, and climate protection. Proceeds from the awards dinner will go to the Stuart Scott Memorial Cancer Research Fund at The V Foundation.
