BASF hosted 26 engineering students at Geismar site for summer internship program
GEISMAR, LA, August 1, 2016 – BASF provided the opportunity for 26 engineering students to spend the summer working as interns at its site in Geismar, Louisiana. The site is BASF’s largest manufacturing facility in North America.
The interns, selected from universities nation-wide, participated in engineering projects that allowed them to apply technical and professional skills and knowledge to real-world situations.
“BASF believes providing a robust internship program for college students allows them the opportunity to learn more about our company, the chemical industry and potential careers available to them upon graduation,” said Tom Yura, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the BASF site in Geismar. “The hands-on project experiences assigned during their internships gave the students a real-world view of what is expected upon graduation and entrance into a professional environment.”
In addition to assigned responsibilities at the manufacturing facility in Geismar, the interns also volunteered during several BASF events including BASF TECH Academy, BASF Kids Day and a BASF neighborhood canvassing event co-sponsored with the American Red Cross.
“Even though BASF is such a large corporation, I felt like I was part of a family,” said Tu-nguyet Nguyen, an engineering student at the University of Texas-Austin. “From the very first day, I was given countless resources to foster my development and a task force to lead me towards success. I also had opportunities to share this kinship with the local community by educating high school students on potential technical careers and preparing our local neighborhoods for hurricane season through BASF volunteering events.”
