BASF employees volunteer to create positive change in Detroit’s Denby community
WYANDOTTE, MI, August 12, 2016 – Two hundred and thirty employees from BASF sites in Michigan recently donated their time to help revitalize areas of Detroit in partnership with Life Remodeled, a Detroit-based nonprofit organization that seeks to remodel lives along with neighborhoods, schools, and homes.
For the third year in a row, BASF partnered with Life Remodeled to host BASF‘s largest annual volunteer initiative in Michigan. This year, BASF volunteers helped remove blight and beautify Denby High School, Skinner Playfield, and the surrounding community.
“It’s an incredible sight to see so many BASF team members from across southeast Michigan join together to help create a sustainable future for the school and community,” said Greg Pflum, Vice President and General Manager of BASF’s Midwest Hub. “We’ve helped to establish a safer environment for our students to excel, which is key to the future of our children and their development.”
“Life Remodeled is committed to the long-term, sustainable development of Detroit neighborhoods,” said Chris Lambert, CEO of Life Remodeled, “We are grateful we can count on the consistent, generous support of BASF.”
Along with mobilizing volunteers, BASF contributed approximately $100,000 in monetary, equipment, and material donations to the renewal efforts. Portions of the donated materials are from BASF’s Professional Vegetation Management (ProVM) division.
“Most people don’t know that BASF has a Professional and Specialty Solutions (P&SS) group that works with pest control operators, and turf and ornamental companies,” said Robert York, BASF’s ProVM Marketing Manager. “In addition, we work with foresters and vegetation management companies. Within the BASF P&SS group we have the ProVM business that supports the efforts of our southeast Michigan colleagues in their work with Life Remodeled.”
