BASF and Earth Rangers bring chemistry to the classroom in 2016

VAUGHAN, ON and MISSISSAUGA, ON, September 6, 2016 -- Elementary school students across Canada celebrate a new school year by creating chemistry with BASF Kids’ Lab, a series of hands-on workshops. Together with Earth Rangers, the Kids’ Conservation Organization, BASF delivers the program to over 1000 students in Alberta, Nunavut, Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan.

The BASF Kids’ Lab program enhances science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) related education for students (ages 6 – 12), encouraging kids to explore the connections between chemistry and the world around them. Since 2013, the program has reached more than 4,000 children in Canada, at no costs to participants.

“Our goal is to engage students in STEM-related fields at an early age, when they are most curious about the world around them,” said Marcelo Lu, President of BASF Canada. “By fostering an interest in the sciences, BASF hopes to inspire the next generation of scientists.”

“Kids love animals and want to take action to protect them and their habitats,” said Peter Kendall, Executive Director, Earth Rangers, “Our partnership with BASF, now in its fourth year, delivers fun and captivating scientific experiments that provide hands-on experience.  We teach students about the importance of water conservation and the important role that chemistry plays in restoring and preserving our countries diverse natural environment.”

The 2016 program will include the “Operation Filtration” and “Hold Everything” experiments, which are performed with safety goggles, a lab apron, and gloves.

This fall, BASF Kids’ Lab will come to schools in the following communities in Canada:

·         Alberta: Blackie

·         Ontario: Brampton, Cornwall, Milton, Mississauga, Oakville, Oshweken, Windsor

·         Quebec: Montreal area

·         Saskatchewan: Saskatoon

·         Nunavut: Iqaluit
