BASF donates $10,000 to assist Hurricane Matthew disaster relief efforts
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, October 14, 2016 — In an effort to help North Carolinians affected by Hurricane Matthew, BASF will donate a $10,000 matching gift to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina on behalf of its employees at its Research Triangle Park site. The company will match the first $10,000 donated to the Food Bank’s Hurricane Matthew Relief Fund. The contribution will deliver life-sustaining food, water and non-food essentials to thousands impacted by the storm.
“BASF and the Food Bank have a strong partnership, and this donation will help families that are going through extreme food insecurity,” said Octavio Soares, Director of Operations for BASF’s North American Crop Protection Division. “There is no time where the need is more pressing than after natural disasters of this magnitude. We hope this matching gift inspires our community to assist the Food Bank’s efforts by donating money, goods or their time to help our neighbors, friends and families during their time of need.”
In the wake of Hurricane Matthew, thousands of North Carolinians are without food, water and basic supplies. More than 300,000 residents are dealing with effects of or preparing for flooding in the next few days.
“The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina is here for the recovery period,” said Peter Werbicki, President and CEO of the Food Bank. “We are continuing with our everyday work to feed people in need, and at the same time supporting those who have been impacted by the storm. It will take a long time for people to recover from this and we appreciate corporate partners like BASF for answering the call and providing critical resources to help those most in need.”
As a long time corporate partner, BASF has committed more than $320,000 this year to support the Food Bank’s programs and initiatives, including serving as a premier sponsor for Food Bank’s “Stop Summer Hunger” and “Sort-A-Rama” campaigns.
