BASF awards $24,000 in STEM grants to Washington County schools
MCINTOSH, AL, December 19, 2016 – BASF’s site in McIntosh, Alabama, presented nine science education grants totaling $24,000 to various educational programs within Washington County schools. The grants will support science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) related learning for students in grades K-12.
“The education grants represent BASF’s commitment to invest in the next generation of innovators, scientists and engineers,” said Jason Slinkard, Site Director of the BASF site in McIntosh. “We hope to encourage and inspire the future leadership of our industry by supporting these STEM initiatives.”
This is the second year the BASF site in McIntosh has invited Washington County schools to submit proposals summarizing their specific science education needs.
This year’s science education grants were awarded to the following recipients:
- Fruitdale High School: $3,000 - Kimberly Johnson’s Chemistry Lab Supply Project
- McIntosh Elementary School: $6,000
- $3,000 - Dr. Billingsley, Deloris Flott, Amanda Lee and Kristi Stoker’s Preparing our Students Today (POST) Project
- $3,000 - Christal Hall’s Sound Energy and Safety Project
- McIntosh High School: $3,000 - Connie Arnold’s Juice Containers Project
- Chatom Elementary School: $3,000
- $1,000 - Zattie Davis’ STEM Smart School Project
- $1,000 - Shannon Odom’s STEM Smart School Project
- $1,000 - Mary Taylor’s STEM Smart School Project
- Washington County Career Technical Center: $3,000 - Career Tech Courses
- Washington County School System: $6,000 - Blended Learning Technology Project
“We appreciate BASF’s continued support in enhancing STEM curriculum,” said John Dickey, Superintendent of Education for Washington County Schools. “These grants support our students as well as our teachers, providing them with valuable resources and opportunities to enrich STEM education. We look forward to continuing and building on our partnership with BASF to benefit our students.”
