BASF awarded American Chemical Society ‘Salute to Excellence Award’ for creating chemistry at Detroit Zoo

WYANDOTTE, MI, May 1, 2017 – The local Detroit section of the American Chemical Society has recognized BASF with their ‘Salute to Excellence Award’ for hosting hands-on science experiments during GreenFest at the Detroit Zoo on Earth Day, April 22.

This is the fifth consecutive year that BASF volunteers have participated in GreenFest and more than 600 families attended BASF’s interactive science exhibition this year.

“This is a great recognition of our many volunteers’ efforts to encourage children’s participation in chemistry,” said Greg Pflum, Vice President and General Manager of BASF’s Midwest Hub. “We want to increase children’s curiosity, expand their education, and spark their interest at a young age in exploring a future career in science by creating amazing things using safe, everyday household materials.”

BASF will be presented with the award at the Central Regional Meeting Awards Banquet of the American Chemical Society in Dearborn on June 8, 2017.
