BASF and employees donate $320,000 to Capital Area United Way

GEISMAR, LA, May 25, 2017 – At a recent BASF jambalaya cookoff and United Way fundraising event, employees presented a $320,000 check to Capital Area United Way– the total amount pledged from employees and BASF during the 2016-2017 campaign at sites in Geismar and Zachary, Louisiana.

The donation represents a $56,000 increase from the year’s previous campaign, including $35,000 dedicated to programs supporting local communities with flood relief and rebuilding efforts.

“Our employees, families and neighbors who were significantly impacted by the unprecedented flooding last August inspired co-workers at BASF to increase their pledges and encouraged some to become new United Way donors,” said Tom Yura, BASF’s Senior Vice President and General Manager at Geismar. “We are part of this community and we’re committed to its rebuilding and recovery.”

Following the August flood, BASF provided the funds and volunteers to rebuild a local veteran’s home in partnership with Capital Area United Way and Greater Baton Rouge Habitat for Humanity. BASF also donated $10,000 worth of gift cards to local veterans, active military and first responders through the Louisiana National Guard to support rebuilding efforts in honor of Veteran’s Day.
