Local community enjoys summer festival at BASF’s Totsuka site in Yokohama, Japan

Tokyo, Japan – July 31, 2019 – BASF’s annual summer program brought joy to the neighborhood community on July 26 at the company’s Totsuka site in Yokohama, Japan. BASF produces and develops automotive coatings at this site.

In celebration of BASF Japan’s 70th anniversary in October, the 44th Summer Festival gathered and encouraged employees across different sites and offices to give back to the community and to become more involved in social engagement.

This year, the event attracted more than 1,500 local residents, who took part in various activities and live performances. BASF Kids’ Lab was also held as part of the Summer Festival to promote the joy of research and scientific discovery to children. About 130 children took part in the “Paper Chromatography” experiment, guided by BASF employee volunteers. Children observed rings of various colors being drawn out of the ink from a felt-tipped pen and appearing on the paper. This chromatographic separation process ignited the interest of the children as they learned to identify individual constituent components contained in the ink.
