Markus Heldt receives Crop Science Award for Lifetime Achievement

  • Former president of BASF’s Agricultural Solutions division honored for achievements in almost 40 years in the agricultural industry
  • The award recognizes exceptional individuals with a consistent history of service above and beyond the call of duty

London, UK – Markus Heldt, former president of BASF’s Agricultural Solutions division, received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2019 Agribusiness Intelligence Crop Science Awards held in London on November 12. Heldt was honored for his achievements in the agricultural industry after a career spanning almost 40 years. The award recognizes exceptional individuals with a consistent history of service above and beyond the call of duty.

“It is a great honor to receive this award. I love this dynamic, ever-changing industry which has a powerful impact on everyone’s lives. If we are talking about agricultural achievements, then mine are tiny compared to what farmers achieve every day. Therefore, I want to dedicate this award to the lifetime achievement of farmers around the globe for doing the biggest job on earth,” said Markus Heldt.

The life of Markus Heldt has been defined by agriculture. He grew up on a small family farm in Germany. Working for BASF since 2000, he shaped the agricultural industry on all continents. During his career, he served as Group Vice President of the Agricultural Products and Fine Chemicals division in São Paulo, Latin America, and as Group Vice President for Crop Protection in North America in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. For the last ten years, Heldt was President of BASF’s Agricultural Solutions division, leading the acquisition of certain businesses and assets from Bayer in 2018 and making BASF a leading player in seeds and crop protection.
