BASF continues to affirm their commitment to women, by creating opportunities for economic growth. BASF has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with North of the Rift Women in Coffee (NORT), a Community-Based Organization that supports women in the region by encouraging them to take up coffee farming as an economic activity and promoting best practices in coffee industry.

Wheat & Barley farmers in Ethiopia will now have access to an excellent solution for tackling fungal diseases, that may destroy up to 100% of the crop. Thanks to Priaxor® EC, a fungicide launched by BASF, one of the world’s leading chemical companies, farmers will have a highly efficient product for the control of fungal diseases that has had an impact on the overall wheat & barley production in Ethiopia.

BASF continues its partnership with the Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV) under the Horti-LIFE project to support smallholder farmers in conflict recovery and drought-affected regions of Tigray and Amhara Region in the North of Ethiopia. In continued effort to support these communities, BASF through its Vegetable Seeds division BASF | Nunhems, has provided 800 kg of high-quality onion seeds, 666,000 hot pepper seeds and 1,500,000 tomato seeds to Farmer Field Schools supported by SNV, facilitating essential training and distribution of seeds to 4,000 smallholders. This collaborative initiative aims to revitalize agriculture in conflict recovery and drought-affected areas and empower farming communities to rebuild their livelihoods. The seed handover ceremony was organized in the premises of the Ministry of Agriculture on February 27, 2024, in the presence of H.E. Dr Melese Mekonen, State Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Shollay Ramlaul, Country Cluster Head at BASF East Africa was part of a panel discussion during the inaugural Kenya Food Processing and Nutrition Leadership (CEO) Forum that was held in Nairobi. The Forum was a platform for key decision-makers in the food processing industry including government and industry, to discuss and develop actionable solutions towards addressing issues related to the provision of high-quality and nutritious foods, as well as enabling food fortification excellence in the country with processors of staple foods. The event was organized by the Cereal Millers Association and TechnoServe.
