BASF In Kenya Joins National Tree Planting Drive on Mazingira Day

BASF in Kenya proudly joined fellow members of the Agrochemicals Association of Kenya (AAK-GROW) in a nationwide tree planting initiative to celebrate Mazingira Day—Kenya’s national day dedicated to environmental conservation.

The event took place at the Mau Likia Forest in Nakuru County, one of Kenya’s most critical water catchment areas and a cornerstone of the country’s ecological heritage.

10,000 Seedlings for a Greener Tomorrow

Over three days, participants planted more than 10,000 tree seedlings, reinforcing a shared commitment among agricultural industry stakeholders to restore forest cover and support Kenya’s national reforestation goals.

The initiative brought together a diverse group of participants corporate partners, regulators, residents, schoolchildren, and forest service officials, all united by one mission: to give back to nature and promote sustainable stewardship of the land.

A Day of Action, Learning, and Collaboration

AAK-Grow’s membership spans producers, manufacturers, importers, formulators, re-packers, distributors, and users of pest control products, all working collectively to advance responsible practices that balance productivity with environmental care.

The BASF team turned out in large numbers, enthusiastically planting dozens of trees. Amid laughter and teamwork, the day became a moment of reflection on BASF’s long-term commitment to sustainability—a tangible reminder that environmental protection begins with action.

Promoting Safe and Responsible Product Use

Beyond tree planting, the day also served as an opportunity to engage local communities on the safe use and stewardship of crop protection products. Experts from the Pest Control Products Board (PCPB) led awareness sessions for farmers and residents, focusing on safe handling, application, and storage of agricultural inputs.

These discussions highlighted how responsible use of crop protection products complements reforestation efforts, both working hand in hand to sustain healthy ecosystems, protect water sources, and ensure food security.

A Shared Commitment to Kenya’s Green Future

This exercise exemplifies how partnerships can translate sustainability commitments into measurable impact. Together, stakeholders planted thousands of seedlings that will grow into a thriving forest canopy, supporting biodiversity and carbon sequestration efforts.

For us, sustainability is not just a corporate goal, it is a guiding principle embedded in operations, innovation, and community partnerships.

Growing Together

As the newly planted trees take root in Mau Likia Forest, they stand as living symbols of collaboration, responsibility, and hope. For the BASF Kenya team, the experience was deeply meaningful. An affirmation that small actions, when multiplied, create powerful change.
