Our staff, of course, also expects to be kept fully informed about decisions and rightly so, and we ensure that they get any news first.

The BASF traineeship offers the perfect basis for a PR/communications career.

We look for employees from a wide range of different fields for corporate communications. This ranges from social sciences and arts to natural sciences and economics. A keen interest in communications work is of course essential.

The traineeship is a perfect start for your career. The trainees at BASF get an in-depth look into the world’s leading chemical company through a modern and multi-faceted program that trains them to become communications experts and journalists.

Work in the corporate communications environment offers diversity and exciting challenges as well as responsibility. This is why we expect:

  • University/college degree with above-average grades
  • Experience in journalism and/or public relations
  • Experience abroad as part of your studies, such as internships or similar programs
  • Fluency in English
  • Excellent MS Office skills
  • The ability to present complex subject matter in easily understandable terms
  • Clear, correct writing style
  • Confidence and interest in working with new people and different cultures
  • Creativity, and the ability to communicate well
  • Teamworking and organizational skills
  • Determination and performance-based orientation

Each trainee is different. Each person brings different expectations and has different skills, previous experience, and interests. Everyone brings something totally different to the trainee program. After one year, communications trainees and supervisors jointly determine which of two directions the remaining program should take, namely public relations (PR) or marketing communications. For some communications trainees this may mean marketing a new BASF product, while for others it may mean organizing events.

In the corporate communications division you can expect a huge variety of different tasks.

The range of activities include traditional press work, employee relations, brand management, marketing and product communications, government relations, corporate events, and a lot more besides.

As a communication trainee you will be actively integrated into all work processes of your field of responsibility. You will also receive support from our experienced supervisors for all your tasks and will be rapidly integrated into the communication trainees’ network.

Our BASF traineeship offers two directions for development - PR and market communication. In your traineeship at BASF you have the possibility in both directions to take on exciting new activities and projects in both areas beyond organizational boundaries.

The communications traineeship consists of internal and external assignments.

During their assignments within BASF, communications trainees work in different communications units for three months at a time. This includes time in one of BASF’s press offices as well as working on the editorial team of an employee publication. The program also includes assignments at a German subsidiary  and within one of BASF’s corporate divisions.

The external part of the program acquaints communications trainees with journalistic practice, including a four-week course at the Akademie für Publizistik in Hamburg or the Haus Busch journalism center in Hagen. Communications trainees also work for three months at external media companies, such as newspapers, radio stations, television, or agencies.
