Your internship at BASF: the foundation for your career

Do you want to show us what you're made of? If so, we would love to have you as an intern at BASF. We are always looking for talented, interested students from a wide variety of fields. At BASF, we can offer an incredible amount of exciting projects and positions, for scientists, engineers, economists, and students of humanities. We are always open to new ideas and unconventional approaches to challenging issues.

Depending on the job profile, you will work on a project either independently or as part of a team. Your personal supervisor will be right by your side to answer any questions you may have, provide helpful contacts, and give you regular feedback on your work.

There are two ways to apply for an internship at BASF:

  • You can search our job database for current internship opportunities and apply directly.
  • You can send us an unsolicited application, specifying the area you wish to work in, the preferred duration of the internship, and your availability.  

You have an excellent academic record alongside specialist knowledge and foreign language skills. You are open to other cultures and fields of work. Have you already gained practical industry experience and  participated in relevant activities outside university? Even better! As teamwork is a key focus at our organization, we are pleased if you have strong communication skills and are a real team player. If you also know how to use your initiative and are keen to take on responsibility even during your internship - we are looking forward to meeting you!

In order to be able to complete an internship at BASF you need to be enrolled at a university for the entire duration.

Internships are usually offered for a duration between two and six months. It goes without saying that all internships are paid.

In Germany mandatory internships are offered for a maximum duration of six months while voluntary internships can only be offered for a maximum duration of three months. You may only do one voluntary internship per legal entity of BASF. Gap-Year internships are offered for a maximum duration of 6 months, independant if an internship with BASF was already completed.

At numerous sites, we offer a variety of events in which you can get to know the world of BASF in more detail: Introductory events, site tours, and presentations at the visitor center are organized for new starters, as well as regular intern get-togethers and specialist presentations. You will be accompanied throughout your internship by a supervisor. When you come to the end of your time at BASF, your supervisor will give you an extensive review of your work and will provide you with a detailed report of your achievements. In individual cases, we can also offer university student jobs.
