The Great Science Share for Schools 2023 - the greatest yet!

Launched in 2016, the Great Science Share for Schools aims to raise the profile of science in schools and their communities, encouraging young people to be inspired into science and engineering.

Supported by BASF since its early days, the Great Science Share for Schools is an award-winning, annual campaign to inspire 5-14 year olds to ask, investigate and share their scientific questions with new audiences.

This year saw an incredible increase in registrations. A staggering 3,802 organisations and schools across 31 countries, reaching 512,720 young people, signed up to be part of the campaign.

In addition to thousands of events taking place in schools, universities, museums, home schools and zoos, the University of Manchester played host to an energetic event on 13 June 2023 where over 300 young learners proudly demonstrated their science enquiries.

Lisa Kelly, Head of BTC UK & Ireland and member of BASF’s UK & Ireland Senior Leadership Team, was delighted to take part. Lisa listened to the pupils share their enthusiasm and learning about a wide range of topics, many of which had a global sustainability theme. “The Great Science Share is genuinely one of my favourite days of the year and I am incredibly proud that BASF continues to be a sponsor of this inspiring event. To see so many young people asking, investigating and sharing their scientific enquiries gives such hope for a bright future in our industry.”

Professor Lynne Bianchi, Director of The Great Science Share for Schools said, “I am delighted that our campaign sparks interest and passion in whole school communities and raises the profile and engagement of young people in primary and secondary school science. This year really was the greatest! I’m overwhelmed that we reached over half a million young learners. We are ever indebted to the hard work of many cross-sector colleagues in sharing the message, to scientists and engineers who work with us on guided enquiry resources and to the support of the University for the team to take this campaign to ever increasing heights.”
