Innovation

With a world class innovation ecosystem, the UK is an attractive hub for R&D in sustainable solutions. We are proud to share an overview of our UK academic partnerships and recent examples of innovation.

At BASF, innovation is the key to our success. Our global network of collaborations spans across more than 220 universities, research institutes, and companies. With our Academic Research Alliances, we take collaboration one step further: we focus on research groups from multiple universities in regional proximity or with specific research focuses and thus form a global network of our world class academic partners.

In the UK, BASF’s British Alliance for Research and Innovation (BARI) is our strategic partnership with Imperial College London. BARI focuses on advancing chemical engineering and digitalisation. Key research areas include flow chemistry, which enables the continuous and efficient production of high-value chemicals, and digital technologies applied to crystallization and corrosion. These innovations are essential for improving process sustainability, reliability, and scalability in manufacturing.

Through BARI, BASF connects with academic collaborators across the UK, fostering a vibrant research community that supports decarbonisation, supply chain resilience, and industrial competitiveness.
