- Car lovers and spray paint hopefuls can try their hand at virtual Glasurit spray painting, exclusively at Motorworld Sydney
- BASF offers education program to support career development in automotive industry
Sydney, Australia - December 1, 2016 – Over 50,000 car enthusiasts attending Motorworld will get the opportunity to put their automotive spray paint skills to the test at Glasurit’s interactive ‘Amazing Paint Race’ installation this weekend, from December 1 – 4, 2016.
BASF’s market-leading refinish paint brand Glasurit will be the star of the show, as the medium for the art of spray painting, colour matching and complex colour development. The event will feature interactive activities suitable for the whole family through to novices, car experts and budding spray painting technicians including:
Virtual spray booth – Attendees can experience what it’s like to spray a car. They are given three minutes to paint a virtual car panel.
Colour match challenge – Coloured shells are mounted on one of the booth walls. Attendees need to match the correct spray chip with each of the coloured shells.
Colour wheel challenge – Participants need to ascertain which colours featured on the inside of a colour wheel can create colours featured on the outside of the colour wheel.
BASF will also share updates from Glasurit EDUCATE program graduates. Run in conjunction with South Western Sydney Institute of TAFE since 2014, this program has successfully imparted valuable industry knowledge to apprentices and substantially lifted the skill levels of 20 students learning about the refinish process.
“BASF is committed to supporting careers in the automotive industry. We aim to attract talented, ambitious people and give them the skills and processes needed to be successful in today’s increasingly sophisticated and competitive industry,” said Ian Johnson, Technical Sales Support Manager at BASF.
“With car manufacturing in Australia experiencing tough times in recent years, it is more important than ever to develop careers in areas of the automotive industry that are thriving. Prospects in automotive refinishing are broad, and apprentices could find themselves working in the future as bodyshop managers, at an OEM or as technical representative, colour designer or teacher,” said Tony Wiggins, Head of Coatings Australia and New Zealand at BASF.
