BASF Indonesia brings fun chemistry experiments to the school children near production sites with its Kids' Lab program

  • BASF Indonesia is bringing the Kids' Lab experience to four different schools in Jakarta, West Java, and Banten
  • We are hosting two chemistry experiments for more than 700 children in four days

Jakarta, Indonesia – December 14, 2022 – BASF, the world's leading chemical company, is bringing fun experiments to school children in Indonesia to help them explore how fun and easy chemistry is used in daily life. For the first time since the pandemic, BASF organized an in-person Kids' Lab at the school near all BASF production sites in Cimanggis, Merak, and Cengkareng from November 28 until December 6, 2022. Nearly 700 primary school students from SDN 1 Cisalak Pasar, Cimanggis, MI Fatahillah, Cimanggis, SDN 1 Mangunreja, Puloampel, and MI Thariqul Khair, Duri Kosambi, conduct two hands-on and fun-filled chemistry experiments under the guidance of BASF instructors and volunteers.

Under the overarching theme of "BASF Kids' Lab goes to School," BASF brings two experiments from the Clever Foodies cluster, specially designed to teach children to learn nutrition facts hands-on and encourage them to make a positive difference in their eating habits. In the "Red Cabbage Loves Color" experiment, children learn that red cabbage contains anthocyanin, which changes colors when it is in contact with vinegar, lemon juice, and baking soda solution – creating beautiful patterns on their paper butterflies. Meanwhile, in the "Healthy Rainbow" experiment, they make serial dilutions of orange juice and investigate how the color and odor of the juice fade along with the number of dilutions. These two experiments help children understand the chemistry in fruits and vegetables they consume, giving a solid idea of how chemistry is a part of daily life.

"Science education is part of BASF social commitment. With "BASF Kids' Lab Goes to School", we are bringing science and inspiring the younger generations to discover the world of chemistry through safe and fun experiments in the comfort of their school," said Agus Ciputra, President Director of BASF Indonesia.

BASF Virtual Lab aims to let children explore the wonders of chemistry without leaving home. It gives children the chance to experience fun and safe chemistry experiments anytime and anywhere. During the pandemic last year, BASF Indonesia introduced its virtual lab in Bahasa Indonesia for Indonesian children comfortably access the online session in their mother tongue. The virtual lab is available at: https://virtualkidslab.basf.com/.

At BASF, education is the key to our children's future, and it plays an important role in the development of society. With our Social Engagement Strategy, we want to open up learning opportunities, encourage children's sense of discovery, and teach good science methods and skills. This helps us meet tomorrow's challenges and create a sustainable future.
