CHINAPLAS 2016: Patient experience improves with medical applications made with BASF’s materials

  • BASF at CHINAPLAS 2016: Design x Innovation – “Open Forum” & “Innovation Gallery” at Booth B41 in Hall N1, Shanghai New International Expo Centre, April 25-28, 2016

Shanghai, China – March 15, 2016 – For the first time at CHINAPLAS, BASF will showcase a wide range of medical applications made with BASF’s materials that contribute to patients’ safety and comfort.

  • Disposable medical gloves made with Hexamoll® DINCH plasticizer: The trusted non-phthalate plasticizer designed for sensitive applications with close human contact is ideal for medical professionals’ use during patient examinations. Hexamoll DINCH is perfectly suited for use in PVC medical devices due to its excellent toxicological profile and low migration rate. It has the right properties to make medical gloves comfortable and elastic while ensuring a very low migration rate.
  • Medical tubes made with Hexamoll DINCH and Elastollan® for various purposes: Hexamoll DINCH fulfills various legal requirements for its use in medical applications and is approved by manufacturers and authorities for the use in medical tubes for dialysis treatment and intravenous therapy. In addition, BASF’s thermoplastic polyurethane Elastollan is also used in medical tubes for intravenous therapy as it is chemically resistant, highly transparent, easy to sterilize with ethylene oxide and gamma rays, and offers remarkable resistance to tears. Both Hexamoll DINCH and Elastollan provide flexibility without the use of phthalates.
  • Inflatable medical mattress made from Elastollan: Compared to the traditional materials, Elastollan offers better hydrolysis resistance (against sweat and urine) and hence is more durable, and offers greater comfort for patients. Due to its flexibility, the material is ideal for an inflatable medical bed which moves continuously with air pumping to enhance circulation, preventing bed sores and skin shearing.
