BASF officially kicks off Community Advisory Panel in Zhanjiang

Zhanjiang, China – August 6, 2020 – BASF today officially kicked off its Community Advisory Panel (CAP) in Zhanjiang. In the first session of the panel, 22 representatives from all walks of life in Zhanjiang participated. The CAP will be an important platform to establish two-way communication between BASF and the local community in Zhanjiang, ensuring the smooth progress of the BASF Guangdong Verbund site project, and further contributing to the sustainable development of the local community.

“BASF has been taking initiatives to engage with the local community since the beginning phase of our new smart Verbund project in Zhanjiang. We wish to establish the Community Advisory Panel as an exchange platform to let everyone in the community understand BASF and our Guangdong Verbund site project in Zhanjiang,” said Klaus Welsch, President, Mega Projects Asia, BASF. “As a responsible community member, BASF is dedicated to growing and working hand in hand with the community where we operate, to pursue a sustainable future together.”

Regular activities will be held with the BASF Zhanjiang CAP in order to update the community on the latest progress of the BASF Guangdong Verbund site and respond to questions and concerns from community residents. Also, the feedback received from the community will help BASF to set up the Good Neighbor Program in Zhanjiang, building mutual trust and a win-win relationship between the company and the community.

“Since the recruitment started in May this year, we have received more than 500 applications from the local community within the first few weeks. I want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported us,” said Haryono Lim, Senior Vice President, Senior Project New Verbund Site China BASF, and General Manager, BASF Integrated Site (Guangdong) Co. Ltd. “The successful implementation of today’s first panel meeting also opened up a new chapter of interaction between BASF and the local community. We will actively incorporate feedback from our community neighbors into the future development and work together to make the BASF Guangdong Verbund site a role model of sustainable development.”

BASF has established CAPs in communities around the world. In Greater China, BASF has set up CAPs around its production sites and offices in Shanghai, Nanjing, Chongqing, and Taiwan, listening to opinions and concerns from the community and various industry representatives in surrounding areas.
