BASF’s Cellasto® celebrates 60th anniversary and its Shanghai plant’s 10th anniversary in Shanghai, China

On October 12, BASF Cellasto® celebrated 60th anniversary as well as its Shanghai plant’s 10th anniversary in Shanghai, China. Over 130 guests participated in the celebration ceremony, including around 60 customers mainly from the automotive industry.

Under the brand name Cellasto, BASF develops, manufactures and sells a wide range of components made from special microcellular and compact polyurethane elastomers to the automotive industry and its suppliers. Today, 85% of all automakers use Cellasto components. In addition to the automotive industry, Cellasto products and solutions are also increasingly used for many other industrial applications where superior noise, vibration and harshness reduction is required.

Cellasto business came into existence in 1961 in Lemfoerde, Germany and was first introduced to China in 1990. In 2011, Cellasto launched a new production site in its Pudong site in Shanghai. Thanks to the dynamic growth of the market, the total number of Cellasto employees in Shanghai has grown from around 40 in 2011 to over 100. What’s more, the Shanghai plant managed to produce a total of 470 million finished parts in the past ten years.
