First "BASF® Kids' Lab Summer Camp" is open for registration

  • BASF launches its first three-day online summer camp
  • The new experiment "Magic Ink" guides kids' through an inquiry-based learning journey
  • Celebrating the 20th anniversary of BASF Kids' Lab in China

Shanghai, China – BASF® Kids' Lab launches its first three-day online summer camp in China this summer in collaboration with the China Science and Technology Museum, Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, and Chongqing Science and Technology Museum. The registration is now open here

Kids across the country from grades 4 to 6 can virtually participate in safe and fun chemistry courses and experiments from August 5-7, upon successful registration. The little campers can explore the world of chemistry by playing with the physical experimental kits provided by BASF and the everyday supplies at their fingertips at home.

Tailored for Chinese children, the new experiment “Magic Ink” guides kids to proactively solve problems in an inquiry-based learning approach. Kids are encouraged to probe into the truth of chemistry by trial and error in fun experiments. In addition, the three-day chemistry courses will help campers gradually build relevant chemical knowledge and foster their interest and enthusiasm for scientific exploration. Campers who complete the experiments with a qualified report will be awarded a souvenir and a certificate jointly by BASF and the three museums.

“In the past two decades, BASF Kids’ Lab has become the summer must-have for many kids and parents in several Chinese cities,” said Dr. Jeffrey Lou, President and Chairman of BASF Greater China. "This year, the first online summer camp that we launch together with our longstanding museum partners, will allow even more children to explore the world of chemistry beyond geographical limitations.”

BASF is committed to actively supporting Sustainable Development Goal 4 "Quality Education" by organizing a wide range of social engagement programs. Since its introduction to China in 2002, BASF's Kids’ Lab program has inspired nearly 200,000 children with science knowledge through safe and fun interactive chemistry experiments every year.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Kids' Lab in China, BASF will host a series of activities later this year including a science exhibition and the launch of a children‘s book. Please visit our website for more information on BASF’s Kids’ Lab in China.

Experiments in 2022 BASF Kids' Lab Summer Camp:

The secret of color change

Color is one of the crucial indicators in the observation of chemical reactions. This experiment guides kids to use pH paper to observe color changes and understand the application of litmus tests in scientific research and everyday life.

The science in bubbles

Why do scientists study bubbles? All insulation materials around us need to be foamed to achieve thermal insulation. By blowing bubbles, foaming, and defoaming, kids can take a closer look at emulsification and demulsification to understand surface tension and surface phenomena.

Magical Ink

While color printing brings great fun to our lives, the accurate and safe printing of intricately designed patterns on plastic film or any other ink-resistant surface with environmentally friendly inks requires the application of best-in-class technology. This experiment guides kids to mix their own ink formulas for printing on the plastic film, using materials at hand. Acting as "scientists", kids are encouraged to explore the best combination of formulas, verify them with professional methods, and submit them.
