On BASF Indonesia’s 40th anniversary, Kids’ Lab brings new experiments to kindle curiosity

  • Interactive chemistry program will be introduced to more than 700 kids during 3-day program in Jakarta
  • Event held at Museum Bank Indonesia to promote education for younger generation

Jakarta, Indonesia – September 16, 2016 – In conjunction with its 40th anniversary of investment and operation in Indonesia this year, BASF is bringing its annual Kids’ Lab program to Museum Bank Indonesia from September 16 – 18, 2016. More than 700 kids will discover how chemistry works and reacts to form new compounds, through four new experiments where they will create “colored worms”, make their own sample of slime and learn how to use polymers in hair gel and water absorption.

“To celebrate 40 years of growth together with Indonesia, BASF is helping kids learn about how chemistry is present in every aspect of life and how many of the products that make everyday life safer, easier and more enjoyable would not exist without chemistry,” said CP Chan, President Director of BASF Indonesia.

BASF Kids’ Lab is designed to spark kids’ interest in science at an early age. Over the years, new experiments have been developed to help kids stay curious about science and chemistry. “This year, for the first time since we started Kids’ Lab in Indonesia, we increased the number of experiments to four and conducted the program in a museum. Our aim is to connect the educational values of Kids’ Lab with those of a museum, an important center that helps the younger generation understand and appreciate the country’s history,” added Chan.

Kids’ Lab has grown in popularity since its debut in Indonesia in 2005. This year, the program received overwhelming response from parents and kids with all sessions fully booked shortly after registration opened. As a tradition to enable more kids to discover the wonders of chemistry, the program was opened to schools and the public as well as less privileged kids from welfare homes, and kids of BASF’s employees, customers and business partners.

BASF Kids’ Lab began at BASF’s headquarters in Germany in 1997 and the program is currently conducted in more than 30 countries worldwide. In Indonesia, more than 6,000 kids have participated in the program since 2005.
