- BASF showcases sustainable solutions to support green buildings
- Experts discuss the important role of sustainable construction to reach Indonesia´s net zero target
Jakarta, Indonesia – 12 June 2024 – BASF hosted ‘Construction Sustainability Day’, in line with its corporate commitment “we create chemistry for a sustainable future”, focused on the Indonesian construction industry. By bringing together government representatives, industry associations, academic institutions, and construction players, the event fostered collaboration towards a greener future in construction.
Demonstrating its commitment to sustainability, BASF has developed sustainable building solutions that can help reduce the carbon footprint of products and provide valuable benefits with renewable resources. Globally, BASF has also reduced its greenhouse gas emissions from 21.2 million tons in 2018 to 16.9 million tons in 2023. BASF's materials contribute to the creation, protection, and maintenance of construction projects for a safer and more sustainable future. Therefore, in this event, BASF Indonesia showcases its various sustainable solutions designed to support green development. These solutions are displayed in four mini-booths, including roof and flooring solutions, glass and windows, walls, coatings, and additives, and infrastructure.
Dr. Christofer Arisandy, President Director of BASF Indonesia, highlighted the company's role in driving sustainable construction through innovative, low-carbon footprint products. “We want to further develop our portfolio towards climate protection, carbon neutrality, and circularity. BASF has developed a digital application to calculate the cradle-to-gate product carbon footprint. This tool enables BASF to calculate the carbon footprint of approximately 45,000 products globally, providing our customers with vital data across their entire product range. “
BASF's commitment to sustainability extends beyond product development. Dr. Christofer Arisandy emphasized their ongoing efforts to refine their chemical portfolio for a more sustainable future. "This event underscores BASF's commitment to be a driving force in fostering real collaboration for sustainable construction in Indonesia," Dr. Christofer stated. "We believe that through combined efforts, we can achieve Indonesia's net zero target and build a greener, more sustainable future for the construction industry."
The Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) also played a key role in the event, with Ir. Kimron Manik, MSc, Director of Construction Sustainability, delivering a keynote address. His presentation focused on the vital role of sustainable construction in achieving Indonesia's net-zero target, the development of green infrastructure as a cornerstone for Indonesia's future, and the importance of a legal framework to support sustainable construction practices. “I really appreciate the Construction Sustainability Day event as this can unite stakeholders and environmental considerations in achieving sustainable infrastructure development. Participating in this event also shows the active role from both the government and industry players to prepare a comprehensive supply chain, especially the domestic construction industry, in achieving the principles of sustainable infrastructure development,” said Ir. Kimron Manik, MSc, Director of Construction Sustainability of the Ministry of PUPR.
The event also featured an engaging panel discussion with leading figures in sustainable construction, including: Ar. Gregorius Budi Yulianto, IAI, AA, Chairman of the Indonesian Architect Association who presented an architectural perspective on green building and sustainable construction practices. Dewi Larasati, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., Head of the Postgraduate Architecture Study Program, Building Technology Research Group, School of Architecture, Planning, and Policy Development ITB shared insights on the latest technologies and advancements in sustainable building. Kris Rianto Adidarma, Chairman of the Indonesian Paint Manufacturers Association, also participated to explain the role of the paint industry in supporting green building principles and sustainable construction.
