BASF launches new rice herbicide to help Japanese farmers save time while controlling tough weeds
- Kanetsugu-Radical Jumbo rice herbicide available in Japanese market starting February 6, 2015
- BASF’s proprietary formulation has lasting effect and allows farmers to reduce necessary spraying work
Tokyo, Japan – February 2, 2015 – BASF Japan will launch Kanetsugu-Radical Jumbo, a brand new rice herbicide that can help Japanese rice farmers control weed more effectively and efficiently. The product will be available in the Japanese market starting February 6, 2015.
Kanetsugu-Radical Jumbo contains cyclosulfamuron and pretilachlor as its active ingredients, which have lasting effects for weed controlling. It allows farmers to control a wide range of weeds including those resistant to some sulfonylurea-based herbicides as well as other perennial weeds. BASF’s proprietary radical formulation offers excellent and efficient weed control with just a small amount of the herbicide (only 10 30g packs of Kanetsugu-Radical Jumbo per 10 ares, each wrapped in water-soluble film). Key benefits of Kanetsugu-Radical Jumbo include:
- Very effective in controlling a wide variety of weeds and grasses, including perennial weeds
- Radical formulation allows for shortened spraying times and improved results
- Combination of two active ingredients ensures lasting effect for 30 days
“The needs of Japanese rice farmers vary heavily based on the scale of the rice paddies and other geographical characteristics,” said Leandro Martins, Business Area Director, Japan & Korea, Crop Protection, BASF Japan.
“Kanetsugu-Radical Jumbo will enable farmers to reduce the work and time they spend in spraying herbicide on rice. We also ensure that it’s suitable for small rice paddies. Kanetsugu-Radical Jumbo complements BASF Japan’s existing lineup of herbicide products, and we are confident that our wide range of high-performance products will help farmers better control weeds and secure better yields in Japan.”
In Japan, BASF is offering herbicide solutions such as Basagran and Hanzou to farmers for successful weed control. The addition of Kanetsugu-Radical Jumbo will further enhance BASF’s portfolio of rice herbicides for the Japanese market.
