BASF and Save the Children Japan host Kids’ Lab in Okayama
Tokyo, Japan – August 27, 2019 – BASF Japan Ltd. and Save the Children Japan, an international child rights non-governmental organization, jointly held BASF Kids’ Lab for children on August 3 and 8 in Mabi-cho, Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture, as part of their activities to support the children affected by the Heavy Rain Event in western Japan in 2018.
BASF has been hosting its Kids’ Lab program, an interactive, fun and free chemistry education program for children to discover the world of chemistry through safe and engaging hands-on experiments, in Japan since 2003 . Held at three after-school programs and children's center in Mabi-cho, about 100 children conducted experiments including the “Clever Foodies” and “Paper Chromatography” experiments in the workshop.
In July 2018, BASF donated JPY 2 million to Save the Children Japan to support emergency response and recovery activities for the Heavy Rain Event, followed by a donation campaign initiated by employees.

The BASF Kids’ Lab program is an interactive, fun and free chemistry education program designed for kids aged 6 to 12 years to discover the world of chemistry through simple and safe hands on experiments. The program has been brought to more than 30 countries across the globe, including the U.S., France, Spain, Australia, Singapore, India and Japan. It was established in 1997 in Ludwigshafen, Germany. Taught by trained employee volunteers, Kids’ Lab has been held in Japan since 2003, with more than 4,700 children participating to date.
