BASF achieves zero-lost time injuries for 20 consecutive years at Ulsan site in Korea
- Zero-lost time injuries goal reached 21 times, for a total of 7,223 consecutive safe working days
- Active participation of employees and partners in “BASF CARE+ Safety Campaign”
Seoul, Korea – September 10, 2020 – BASF’s chemicals site in Ulsan, one of the company’s eight large-scale production sites in Korea, has operated with zero-lost time injuries continuously for the 20 years, from August 29, 2000, to August 29, 2020. This milestone reaffirms the company’s commitment to safety and demonstrates the effectiveness of its safety management system. The Ulsan site has also set a record of reaching its zero-lost time injuries goal 21 times, achieving a total of 7,223 consecutive safe working days, as of June 8, 2020.
The site has achieved this milestone with the help of its stringent policies for safety, health, and environmental protection, including comprehensive efforts to minimize risks across the entire process, including in the manufacture, transport, use, and disposal of products.
“These meaningful achievements are the results of concerted efforts between our employees and partners in raising safety awareness, promoting the safety culture, and implementing a safety management system,” said Sun-Jung Yoo, Site Manager at Ulsan site, BASF Korea.
The Ulsan chemicals site has also actively participated in BASF’s global safety culture program, “CARE+ Safety Campaign”, an initiative to promote safety awareness and emergency response capabilities among employees and partners. As part of the global safety campaign, the site has also implemented activities to create a safe working environment. In addition, the site has employed the Yellow Card system that prevents, reduces, and eliminates work-related hazards and unsafe behaviors before they happen. The site employees also participate in the “Global Safety Days”, to exchange information on safety, security, health, and environmental protection.
“At BASF, we never compromise on safety. We value the health and safety of people above all else,” said Young-Yull Kim, BASF Korea’s Representative Director. “We will continue to implement safety measures to protect our employees, partners, and neighbors.”
Led by Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA), BASF’s site in Ulsan has voluntarily joined the “accident-free campaign” , since 2000. Companies can receive an accident-free certification through an examination conducted by the KOSHA. Since 2019, the campaign has also been supervised by the Korea Industrial Safety Association.
