Young scientists celebrate anniversary of BASF Kids’ Lab with new experiments

  • More than 700 children to participate in three-day program at Petrosains KLCC
  • New “Clever Foodies” experiments to celebrate 20th anniversary of BASF Kids’ Lab worldwide
  • Children learn about food nutrition and healthy diets

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – October 6, 2017 – BASF, the world’s leading chemical company, is celebrating the 20th year of BASF Kids’ Lab globally since the program’s launch in 1997. To mark the anniversary, BASF in Malaysia will introduce three new experiments, under the theme of “Clever Foodies”, in this free, interactive chemistry education program. More than 700 children aged between 6 and 12 will learn nutrition facts through safe, hands-on experiments during the program, which will be held from October 6 – 8, at Petrosains KLCC.

“We wanted to make this year’s Kids’ Lab program special as we are celebrating two decades of educating children about the fascinating world of chemistry globally. In line with BASF’s social engagement strategy, we aim to create sustainable impact in our social activities. Through Kids’ Lab, we hope to show children the importance of chemistry and to instill a learning interest in science subjects,” said EngLeong Goh, Managing Director of BASF (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

The “Clever Foodies” experiments focus on how good food contributes to a healthy lifestyle. Children will explore and analyze the substances in fruit and vegetables to understand why they are colorful and healthy. “Along with giving children the opportunity to conduct real scientific experiments, we hope to promote healthy diets and eating habits,” added Goh.

In Malaysia, more than 10,000 children have participated in the program since 2006. Along with Klang Valley, Kids’ Lab has been held in Pasir Gudang, Johor and Kulim, Kedah, where BASF has its operations. Special sessions were also arranged for less privileged children from welfare organizations such as Persatuan Dyslexia Malaysia and Malaysia Federation of the Deaf.
