BASF brings new phytase Natuphos® E to unlock vital nutrients for feed industry in the Philippines

  • Unprecedented enzyme stability sets new benchmark for feed phytase technology
  • Helps swine and poultry better utilize phosphorous and important nutrients, resulting in economic and environmental benefits
  • Launch marks 10-year partnership between BASF and Carrington Trading

Philippines – June 10, 2016 – BASF has introduced to the Philippine market a new enzyme for animal nutrition, Natuphos® E.  The launch was held in two strategic locations in the country - Cebu and Manila -on June 7 and 9 respectively.  The launch also celebrated the 10-year partnership between BASF and its channel partner, Carrington Trading, Inc., a leading player in the import and distribution of various raw materials, nutritionals and feed additives to the animal nutrition industry in the Philippines.

As the first company to market a phytase for feed more than 25 years ago, BASF has once again set a new standard in feed phytase technology with Natuphos E.  A new generation phytase which helps pigs and poultry better utilize phosphorous, other important nutrients such as proteins and calcium as well as energy, Natuphos E is set to bring a wide range of benefits to the animal feed industry.

“Building on BASF’s long-term experience and expertise, Natuphos E ensures a very fast and efficient release of phytate-bound phosphorous, which is an important constituent of any healthy diet. With Natuphos E, feed manufacturers and farmers will benefit from considerable cost savings through a more nutritive diet,” said Stephen Crisp, Regional Head, BASF Animal Nutrition Asia Pacific.

The majority of phosphorous in grains and oilseeds is bound to phytic acid, an anti-nutritive factor found in feed. Phytate-bound phosphorous can hardly be used by animals such as pigs and poultry, and is therefore lost as a potential nutrient and excreted. As a result, manufacturers need to supplement the feed with either inorganic phosphates or very effective phytases to make sure the animals are supplied adequately with the required amounts of the essential mineral phosphorous.

Additionally, Natuphos E releases other valuable nutrients, making animals generally more efficient at digesting their feed. This leads to less excretion of undigested phosphate, which, as a result, helps reduce water pollution and care for the environment.

Manufactured by BASF in Germany, Natuphos E delivers superior pelleting and premix stability in challenging environments and feed-production processes, in addition to a long-term shelf life stability.

Pinky Pe Tobiano, President and CEO of Carrington Trading, Inc., said, “The 10-year partnership milestone with BASF is a testament to our commitment and continued innovation towards growing and developing the animal nutrition industry together in the Philippines. BASF’s success with Natuphos will continue to be our success in the country.”
