Singapore – December 19, 2018 – BASF has concluded its 16th annual Kids’ Lab, a chemistry program for children, at the Jurong Regional Library in Singapore. Held this year as part of the company’s 40th anniversary celebrations, this annual program gives children the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of science and chemistry through interactive, fun and hands-on experiments. Kids’ Lab is a global BASF program which has been held in Singapore since 2003.
The theme for this year’s Kids’ Lab program in Singapore, from December 12 to 15, 2018, was “Sustainability – Importance of plastic recycling and renewable resources”. Through mini experiments that mimicked the process of sorting plastics in recycling plants, children were introduced to the various properties of plastics, the importance of plastic separation for recycling purposes and about using renewable and non-renewable resources in producing plastics.
Kids’ Lab Singapore 2018 was held in collaboration with the National University of Singapore Chemical Sciences Society. About 50 university student volunteers were present to guide the children through the experiments and activities. This year’s program was designed in partnership with Playeum Children’s Centre for Creativity – an independent registered charity – with the goal of developing a fun and interactive program that encourages creativity and critical thinking.
BASF has been present in Singapore since 1978. The company currently operates four production sites and employs more than 600 people. BASF has been celebrating its anniversary year in Singapore with community programs and events involving customers, partners and employees.
