BASF wins Taiwan Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility Award 2018
- BASF receives award for sixth consecutive year
- Ranked Top 2 among multinational companies for the second year
- Award recognizes BASF’s innovative environmental protection practices and contribution to science education
Taipei, Taiwan – September 3, 2018 – For the second year, BASF has ranked in the Top 2 multinational companies in Taiwan’s “2018 Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility Award” by CommonWealth Magazine. This is the sixth consecutive year BASF has received the award, which recognizes its environmental protection practices and long-term contribution to science education in Taiwan.
“To be recognized as one of Taiwan’s top corporate citizens for sixth consecutive year is an exceptional achievement for BASF Taiwan. Our corporate purpose is: we create chemistry for a sustainable future. This is demonstrated in our commitment to responsible sourcing, safe operations, people development, and products that help our customers meet their sustainability goals. Additionally, social engagement with the community is a vital part of our purpose, and to this end we continue to make a long term contribution to science education in Taiwan,” said Kin Wah Chay, Managing Director of BASF Taiwan.
BASF social engagement activities in Taiwan are designed to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #4, “Quality Education.” BASF Kids’ Lab has inspired more than 12,000 Taiwanese students to discover the world of chemistry and find ways to tackle the challenges of resource conservation, improve quality of life and build awareness of environmental protection through fun and safe hands-on experiments.
The physical environment of a school, including lighting, is also necessary for proper education. In 2017, BASF Taiwan completed a lighting renovation project by donating and replacing about three thousand LED lighting tubes using a new BASF technology, at two primary schools with limited resources near its production site in Taoyuan. This provides a more comfortable reading and learning environment for teachers and school children by improving the lighting in the classroom.
As one of the world's most innovative companies, BASF is continuously introducing sustainable products and solutions onto the market which significantly contribute to improving quality of life and conserving energy and resources. BASF applies stringent EHS standards to its own operations and acts as a fair and reliable partner by sourcing and producing responsibly, to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns as well as creating value for the environment.
