BASF launches Luxinum® herbicide in Indonesia that offers rice farmers a novel mode of action for pre-emergent weed control

  • Powered by Luximo® Active - the first active ingredient in the new HRAC mode of action group 30 that effectively controls grasses, sedges and selected broadleaf weeds.
  • Luxinum® will be continuously rolled out across Indonesia enabling rice farmers to achieve cleaner fields and better yields.

East Java, Indonesia, August 26, 2025 — BASF is marking a significant milestone of advancing its innovation pipeline with the launch and rollout of Luxinum® herbicide – Powered by Luximo® Active – in Indonesia.
Following the success of over 650 farmers attending BASF outreach events on Rawajitu, Lampung on July 10, and Parigi on July 17, 2025, BASF will on August 26 host an official launch event in Madiun and will showcase to invited farmers and business partners the firsthand results of Luxinum application achieved through its field trials.

Luxinum is a groundbreaking herbicide belonging to Group 30, the first new mode of action introduced in decades. The novel chemistry offers a unique mechanism that inhibits cell membrane processes in weed seedlings, effectively disrupting germination and eliminating tough grass and sedge weeds.

“Indonesia is the fourth largest rice producer in the world, and the launch of Luxinum will unprecedently enable farmers achieve better yields in the coming rice growing season,” said Robert Upton, Business Management Southeast Asia, BASF Agricultural Solutions. “As a soil residual herbicide offering weed management for approximately four weeks, our studies have shown farmers will benefit from 21 days long-lasting clean field protection. By leveraging our expertise in chemistry, BASF can provide rice farmers with better options for weed management and support them achieve better yields and achieve sustainable rice cultivation”.

“Indonesia’s rice farmers are at the heart of our team’s efforts in agriculture,” said Jerico Gascon, Local Business Management, BASF Agricultural Solutions, Indonesia. “With Luxinum, we address local rice farming struggles because weed infestations can cause up to 60% and a maximum of 90% yield losses, when left uncontrolled.    Studies have shown that Luxinum controls resistant weeds such as Jawan, Dengkulan, and Tekian. This ultimately provides farmers with a new herbicide option that delivers the benefits of cleaner fields, better nutrient uptake, and stronger crop growth”.

Luxinum will be progressively rolled out across Indonesia and support rice farmers in the next growing season. It provides pre-emergent control of resistant weeds such as grasses (including ACCase and ALS-resistant biotypes), sedges, and selected broadleaf weeds at pre- and early post-emergence application timings. Luxinum is designed to become the backbone of effective and sustainable grass weed management programs for rice farmers, where rotating multiple modes of action is essential to combat resistance. BASF will also be implementing stewardship programs and collaborate with channel partners to enable farmers’ adherence to on-label application guidelines for optimal results.
