The Power of Connected Minds

See how the construction of our Pasumai catalyst plant in Chennai, India provided a boost to both a greener environment and careers.

It is happening

217,000 new cars are added to Indian roads every month. The level of harmful emission is growing exponentially. That’s where we come in.

A global junction
Bringing together people and experts from various professions

The thought of living in a greener environment has inspired a group of diverse professional experts. At BASF, a team of dedicated electrical, instrumentation, mechanical and process engineers along with business managers came together and created a catalytic converter which helps to protect the air we breathe from harmful emissions. Our catalysts are widely deployed, for example in cars, aircrafts and factories.

To achieve optimal results, worldwide collaboration would be key. Countless challenges and opportunities presented themselves to the team and provided both personal and professional development in a safe workplace. We call this: “The power of connected minds”.

The many hurdles

On the road to success, there are many hurdles. We were able to overcome these roadblocks by careful planning with utmost precision. Logistical factors like land feasibility, infrastructure cost and other variables were accounted for by mapping out a detailed blueprint.

The planning process enabled the team to identify crucial milestones which would see a barren land changed into a thriving plant within our project timeline.

Ramesh Babu Sundaramoorthy

Senior Project Manager - Pasumai

Ramesh Babu looks after large construction projects at BASF and has been involved from the early stages of conceptualizing and planning, to the final commissioning and execution of the plant. He is an expert in engineering, construction and project management functions which are instrumental in tackling issues in a large project like this. Right from choosing the most appropriate location to the availability of land, from managing infrastructure costs to solving logistic problems, obtaining government permissions to managing diverse teams, he was responsible for the successful completion of the plant before it was handed over to the production and manufacturing team. For him, handing over a successfully completed project to the production and manufacturing team makes it all worthwhile in the end.

Ratnadeepa Das

Project Engineer

Ratnadeepa plays a vital role in operations and has been involved right from the planning stage. As an integral part of the projects engineering team, she interacts with the global team and has access to advanced technology from around the globe. She has helped overcome various roadblocks with detailed studies, planning and scheduling.

Journey towards accomplishment

When our ideas came to life

Driven by the goal towards a greener environment, we made sure that while constructing the plant, our carbon footprint was kept minimal. We brought together bright minds with expertise in Sales and Marketing, Engineering and Instrumental and Process Technology. As a result, the development of the Pasumai plant enabled BASF to produce catalytic converters on a large-scale base.

Arwin Mathias

Lead Mechanical Engineer

Our concept was taken to the next level by implementing it in reality. This is where Arwin played a major role. He was involved from the initial planning stage to the detailed engineering and supervision of the final product. His co-ordination skills, technical knowledge in handling equipment installation, piping and execution of packages (such as fire hydrants, HVAC and raking systems) all helped the Pasumai Plant achieve its production goals.

Striving to win
Connecting the mind to the market

After the the plant was up and running, our Sales and Product team took over the reins, and created a platform that was able to deliver our catalysts to a thriving market.

Harindranath Revanur

Head – Sales and Marketing

With over 25 years of experience in the automobile industry, Hari had previously worked on engines and after-treatment systems. For him, joining BASF was a logical extension to his career. His vast experience helped the Pasumai plant meet all regulatory compliances and emission norms.

And the journey continues

The Pasumai plant is one example that showcases the values and beliefs of BASF, however the journey does not end here. It is in fact only one of the many building blocks that will help transform our world into a better and greener place. Innovation plays a key role in BASF. We work continuously on new products, pioneering technologies and modern production processes for a sustainable future.
