Hundreds of new toilets sponsored by BASF India Limited help improve sanitation in Dahej

Dahej, Gujarat, India – April 25, 2016 – Residents of Dahej Village can now enjoy better sanitation with 230 new, clean household toilets in the community that are sponsored and built by BASF India Limited under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) program.

With the aim to completely eradicate open defecation and support the government’s Swachh Bharat initiative, BASF and the non-profit organization Citizens Foundation for Better India are working to improve sanitation in the community surrounding BASF’s production site in Dahej. The project also comprised of establishment of a waste management system for 561 households and the launch of an educational program to strengthen the community’s awareness and capacities towards Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) along with waste management.

As part of the broader CSR program, BASF has also sponsored ‘Smart Class’ for two schools in Dahej i.e. P.J. Chedda School and Prathmik Kanyashala – Dahej Village. Running by the schools, the ‘Smart Class’ is a virtual learning classroom that teaches students basic concepts on various subjects and offers them vocational training.
